Well I have birds on the brain after doing a weeks worth of bird sketches.So for this weeks illustration friday I chose to draw a bird. The theme is "Forward". In my opinion birds are always moving forward never backwards. So with that said I hope you enjoy this Bird Illustration.

Greetings and Welcome To The 2012 Blog Year.

For my first post of the year I chose to post a poster project I have been piecing together for a while now. It is a black and white poster that I will be printing (18x24), it is a bunch of doodles. Now just to set it straight this is know mere poster. More exactly this is an homage to the lost doodles, sketches if you will, that would other wise go unnoticed or cast to the side or worse yet thrown out. So with this said I hope this project will inspire you and I look forward to the posters being printed. The End.

Long Time No Post

Hello Hello --

Well it has been a solid month since my last post, and I don't want to disappoint, but this is just a filler for the big post to come. I just bought a new sketch book and did this little sketch and It had a quirky feel to it. Hopefully I will continue to post some sketchbook stuff.

I helped out a small literary publication called Big Lucks check it out here. Buy it here.

Also I did a series of work for FoozKids a great company in California to keep kids busy and a great learning tool. I am unsure if the art is up right now or if you need to join to have access to see the art. However here is a sneak peak

Three New Digital Pieces

Alright

Well here is something special for you to feast your
eyes on. As you know I hardly use the computer to create
my artwork. But here I used the Photoshop to create (what I feel to be) almost a digital version of my normal art. These were illustration that never got used for a certain project which later developed into something else. However this was a great experience for me and I really liked the outcome. Let me know what you think. I might even put these on my site. I still don't like that there is no true original.

Exclusive : Blue Tailed Snoob Sighting

A 2 year old Blue Tailed Snoob

Hello.

While many people and animals dislike this sort of extreme heat, the elusive Blue Tailed Snoob has been known to emerge out of hiding to bask in the suns rays. While on a walk early one afternoon I heard a rustling in the brush. Curious, I got a little closer only to catch a glimpse of a 2 year male Snoob eating his lunch. Without a camera, I grabbed my sketchbook and began drawing and painting as quickly as possible. This maybe the only documented image of the beast. I was also able to capture some noises the Snoob was making as well. Click Me .

Jazz Fest Poster

Alright well here was an opportunity to participate in a Jazz Poster Contest that was being held in my home town. Unaware of the Jazz Culture or lack there of it, I decided to have a go at it. Also as you can see I am practicing using photoshop very minimally but I am liking the results. Also it is always good for me to practice my graphic design skills. Greetings !

The end to another great week. This was a fun illustration I did for Illustration Friday, the theme being "Bicycle". I tried out a new technique for this piece. Everything is drawn traditionally and then pieced together. This is like assembling cut paper. I don't know If I will switch to this technique, but I do like the results and that everything is still mine and made traditionally. (Maybe I will make a new portfolio of pieces like this) With that said I would love to know what you think about this piece.

Well it's a crappy day outside so I though I would do a little art.

This weeks topic on Illustration Friday is "Bottled" this seems to be

pretty straight forward. I experimented with this one using watercolor in

a different way, by not using the brush directly with the surface.

Also I set a 40 minute time span for this. I don't really know why

but I like having the time go by and having to make decisions quickly.

Layers

Well

It has been a while since my last post. Here I have my entry
for Illustration Fridays theme for "Layers". I really enjoy doing these
and experimenting. I 99% of the time never use the computer to make
or rearrange any of my art. However this time I did, just for some fun.
I clearly dropped these two characters in for the background. These guys are actually from a previous entry a while back, which makes this even funnier. In other news I did enter a submission to get into 3x3, my first real entry for anything, so fingers crossed for that. Stay tuned for a new post coming the first day of March. I will be posting another illustration I did for the fine people at Culture Cheese Mag (check your local Whole Foods for your copy). Hello

Well I must say it was a pleasent surprise when I checked out EFII,
only to discover they used my "Birds on a Wire" piece to headline the article. On a side note I can't believe the popularity of that single piece, I literally have had so many people tell me how much they enjoy the piece. Prints will absolutely be available at my upcoming show in Philadelphia, near the
end of January.

Hello

Just going through some old sketches and picking out some
favorites. It's always a good time looking back through your sketchbooks.
Without fail you will want to draw when your done looking. You will see
old characters or an idea that was never fully realized. Also it's great when you can look at a sketch and remember the time, place and the way you felt when you did it.

Check this out. It's 4 kids and they post their art all the time.
It is great to look at and I always get some idea from them.

Hello.

I decided to take some time out of my busy schedule and do a piece for Illustration Friday. This weeks word was "Afterwards". Many different images popped into my head, however, my concept is simple. What happens to us after our mortal lives come to an end? I chose to do a quick spot illustration for this particular word. Also, I just wanted to experiment with some selective color to give it a more editorial feel and to reinforce the afterwards theme

Culture Cheese Magazine- Autumn 2010 / Process

Here is a look at an illustration I did about a month ago for Culture Cheese Magazine. This is a magazine the embodies everything there is to know about cheese. You can find it at whole foods and various other high end grocery stores. Any way I had a quick turn around on this particular piece, so I thought I would show some of my process. Thanks to AD Hilary Miller over at culture for the opportunity.

some loose sketches to get the juices flowing (not all the sketches)

approved sketch on the left / on the right they sent me the spot in the magazine where the illustration would be used. this was very helpful as you can see. Not much space to fit in quite a bit of info. This thing needs to be tall and skinny and a pretty weird shape. * note at this point I had already made two full color illustration that just weren't working.

Some time ago I made a series drawings on yellow post-it paper. I thought it would be interesting to put them together on one piece. So I deleted the background and pieced them together. This is what you get It was also interesting to see a print out of just an individual character with the background still there and compare it to the original post-it note itself, same size and everything. enjoy

Hatch-Illustration Friday

Well I haven't done any Illustration Fridays in a while so I

went to their site. "Hatch" was this weeks theme. Having just

completed my other Illustration I thought this would be a good chance

to keep the ball rollin' as they say. Staying loose is my biggest problem.

As soon as it's dubbed a project I instantly tighten up. I never

do sketches, color studies or research for IF posts and I usually like

how they turn out in the end better (sometimes) which is bittersweet.

The point is Illustration Friday gives me an outlet to make new art without the added pressure to make sure the final is "Right". SO staying loose is something I need to work on.

Any way I present to you "Hatch".

Say cheese !

Hello there, So here is my newest illustration,

this is for Culture a gourmet cheese magazine that

is in most whole food and cheese shops. A fun illustration for sure. Anyone

who knows me knows Im a big fan of drawing cheese and subs and stuff.

This will go along with a poem called "Ode on the Mammoth Cheese"

by James Macintyre. This magazine comes out quarterly and is quite

the insight on cheese if your into that kind of stuff. I also am showing the approved sketch here.

I had many other rough sketches before and after this one but this is what I ended up sending. I think it hits shelves sometime in February. Until next time.

Well this post has been a long time coming. I started the this Project a while ago for a friend, He wanted me to do a Cd cover for his "hardcore" band. I was a bit hesitant considering I didn't think my style would fall into this category of music. I did the original piece a few months a go (the monster). But just recently did a back cover. Overall a good experience and fun to do. Stay tuned for my children's musician project and DVD cover by Alex & the Kaleidoscope Band. *Also a quick pic of my new studio which is real good. I will update sooner then later.

Illustration Friday Post 7-17

Well it has been a busy past few weeks, from getting a job, to
finding a place to live, working and making art. In the near future
I will have my own private studio in the place I'm moving to. This will be amazing.
Keep checking back because I will be doing artwork for a children's musician, really excited for
that. Any hoot this weeks Illustration Friday post was for the word "Foggy"
I originally did a piece for this but being quite rusty just made a mess of the whole thing.
So I did another piece, being much happier with the results here it is.
